Fixed, mobile broadband base up 49% year-on-year, Telebrasil reports

According to a survey published by Telebrasil, the country had 43.7 million fixed and mobile (e.g. 3G) broadband users at the end of June 2011, up 49% year-on-year. Moreover, the Brazilian telecoms association notes that a total of 8.5 million new high speed internet connections were added between January and June alone, driven by mobile broadband which increased 67% y-o-y to 27.9 million, including 21.3 million 3G mobile accesses (+90%). In the fixed line sphere, total connections reached 15.8 million Telebrasil says, up 26% in twelve months.
