Bayanat Al-Oula awards USD107 million fibre contract to four international firms

According to Construction Week Online, Saudi Arabian broadband operator Bayanat Al-Oula has awarded a contract worth USD107 million to four international firms to install a fibre-optic network in four different cities. The international firms, which have yet to be named, will install fibre-optic networks in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Al Khobar in the first phase, rolling out around 4,000km of fibre. The rollout is expected to serve more than 70,000 households. Khalid Al Kaf, CEO of Bayanat parent company Mobily, indicated that the move has been necessitated by the ‘accelerated development [of the telecoms sector] as well as huge growth in the number of users, both individuals and businesses’.
