Hong Kong-based telco New World Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent to prepare its optical network for the introduction of 100Gbps technology, enabling an improved variety of services for enterprise customers. Johnny Cheung, New World’s executive vice president for networks and IT, said: ‘Alcatel-Lucent will help expand the capacity, performance and flexibility of our network to address the rapid growth in demand for high speed data transmission, especially suitable for telecommunications, banking and finance, as well as media industries in Hong Kong.’

Alcatel-Lucent’s ‘Converged Backbone’ solution is a key component of its ‘High Leverage Network’ architecture, which is designed to cut transport costs and dramatically reduce operational complexity in core networks. New World has established bilateral partnerships with more than 300 foreign telco incumbents and telecoms carriers.
