Entel brings HSPA evolution to Latin America

13 Jul 2011

Chilean cellco Entel PCS has become the first company to launch dual-carrier HSPA evolution (DC-HSPA+) in Latin America. The new technology, supplied by Ericsson, offers potential mobile data speeds of up to 42Mbps. Entel will be offering packages with a maximum download speed of 22Mbps but an average rate of 6Mbps. The upgrade was apparently a response to a rising demand for data services and the increasing popularity of smartphones in the Chilean market.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of March 2011 Entel had the largest number of 3G subscribers with 666,172 customers, and a 35.5% share of the wireless market.
