Orange Poland has launched Dual Carrier High Speed Packet Access (DC-HSPA+) in Gdansk and Warsaw and plans to add a further six cities soon. The new DC-HSPA+ technology offers end users theoretical mobile download speeds of up to 42.2Mbps. The cellco rolled out the new service and expanded coverage in cities already connected with 150 base stations in Warsaw, 115 in Gdansk and around 215 in the areas around Szczecin, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw and Katowice, reports Telecompaper. The next stage of expansion is to extend the service to Bydgoszcz, Torun, Bialystok, Lodz, Lublin and Czestochowa.
According to Telegeography’s GlobalComms Database, Orange Poland had 7.5 million 3G users at the end of March 2011 (just over half its entire customer base) compared to Polkomtel’s (Plus) 2.5 million, and P4 and T-Mobile’s two million each.
