Shaw posts fiscal 3Q results, continues mobile rollout

Western Canada-based cableco Shaw Communications has posted a 28% year-on-year increase in net profit to CAD203 million (USD208 million) as it shaved costs and increased revenues to CAD1.28 billion in the three months ended 31 May 2011 from CAD944 million a year earlier. Shaw gained a net 11,000 cable broadband internet customers in the quarter, bringing its total to 1.86 million, and its digital cable telephony lines in service increased by 31,000 to 1.21 million at the end of May. Shaw has repeatedly delayed its entry into the mobile market but is continuing its wireless network rollout, spending CAD22 million in the quarter on cellular infrastructure, although it still has not released a target date for launch.
