Com Hem acquires Canal Digital Kabel-TV

21 Jun 2011

Sweden’s leading cableco Com Hem has increased its dominance of the sector further with the acquisition of smaller rival Canal Digital Kabel-TV for SEK85 million (USD13.2 million), it announced in a press release. Canal Digital, a subsidiary of Canal Digital Sweden, is currently part of the Norwegian-based Telenor group, and offers cable television and IPTV, serving approximately 220,000 households with television services. The cable TV subscriber base will be connected in phases to Com Hem’s services, whilst the IPTV business – with around 22,000 active customers – will be transferred in a subsequent sale to another Swedish operator, AllTele. Canal Digital Sweden says it is selling the cable and IPTV operations to concentrate on satellite services. The transaction is subject to Competition Authority approval.
