Polkomtel confirms three bids

16 Jun 2011

Herbert Wirth, CEO of Polish mining firm KGHM, which owns 24.39% of Polkomtel, announced yesterday that three final bids had been received for the sale of the cellco, but did not name the bidders. Of the four parties previously interested, it had been reported that only two remained. TeliaSonera was the first to remove itself from the running, and an anonymous source close to the sale said yesterday that Telenor and Bain had also pulled out. However, KGHM’s announcement suggests that Telenor and Bain have gone ahead with a bid, pitting them against Polish billionaire Zygmunt Solorz-Zak and Apax Partners.
