NT to double backbone bandwidth

15 Jun 2011

State-owned incumbent operator Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (Nepal Telecom, or NT) is looking to double its bandwidth capacity to 4Gbps, as it looks to redress issues with internet access speeds of its ADSL and GPRS services. The capacity increase will be carried out within a week, allowing users to surf the web at a higher speed – and most probably on a cheaper tariff. NT spokesperson Surendra Prasad Thike says the company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian telcos Tata Communication and Bharti Airtel to increase its bandwidth and resolve its current capacity issues.
