Celcom enlists NSN for DC-HSPA+ upgrade in Klang Valley

14 Jun 2011

Malaysian mobile operator Celcom Axiata has selected Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to expand and modernise its existing 3G network in the Klang Valley as part of its ongoing plans to enhance its infrastructure in the region. As part of the deal the Finnish vendor will deploy Dual Carrier (DC) HSPA+ technology offering theoretical downlink speeds of up to 42Mbps, with a view to meeting the increased demand for mobile data services spurred by rising smartphone use in the country. NSN will deliver Long Term Evolution (LTE) ready radio access equipment Flexi Multiradio Base Stations, while also upgrading its network management system, NetAct, for Celcom’s current and future needs, as part of the contract. ‘Klang Valley is one of Celcom’s most important markets as it has the highest density of mobile broadband and smartphone users. Our key priority is to ensure that our customers get the best experience, be it in voice, video, music, email, internet browsing or multi-media messaging,’ Celcom CEO Dato Sri Shazalli Ramly, noted, adding: ‘As Celcom aims to grow its current smartphone user base to 30% of total customers by the end of 2011, we are pleased to award this crucial network infrastructure upgrade contract to Nokia Siemens Networks. The network upgrade with Nokia Siemens Networks’ technology will benefit our customers with faster data speeds and enhanced services.’
