Slovakia updates electronic communications law

3 Jun 2011

Slovakia’s government adopted amendments to the country’s main telecoms legislation, the Electronic Communications Law, on 1 June 2011, transposing the bulk of the latest EU telecoms regulatory framework, and the updated law will enter into force on 1 October. The original Electronic Communications Law (Act No. 610/2003) has been enforced since January 2004, with a universal service fund created in September that year, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database. Slovakia has postponed the implementation of certain universal service provisions contained in the latest EU electronic communications framework until 1 January 2012, Telecompaper reports.
