Globacom expands network with PT signalling solution

1 Jun 2011

US network communications solutions provider PT has been selected by African telecoms company Globacom to supply its signalling core solution to expand the operator’s network in Nigeria. PT’s SEGway Signalling System, which has already been deployed by Globacom’s operations in Ghana and Benin, will enable Globacom to expand its Nigerian network while transitioning to an all-SIGTRAN network. It is built on an IP-native fabric providing the capability to support future network interfaces, and the power to host multiple core network features such as mobile number portability, SMS-Defense and upcoming Long Term Evolution (LTE) applications. The platform is also expected to result in savings in operations and maintenance costs, while ensuring a smooth network growth path. ‘PT has demonstrated an unprecedented level of commitment as a vendor in this region,’ noted Mike Jituboh, senior executive at Globacom, adding: ‘Their expertise in all aspects of Next-Gen IP-based signalling, and their proven ability to deliver and support it, has made PT our preferred signalling vendor as we continue to expand our network coverage across Africa.’
