BIPT pushes back 2600MHz auction

27 May 2011

Belgium’s telecoms regulator, the Belgian Institute for Post and Telecommunications (BIPT), has announced that the country’s upcoming 4G auction has been pushed back to late November 2011, having originally been expected to take place a month earlier than that. The decision to delay the auction process comes as the BIPT revealed that it is currently working on a regulatory decision aimed at ‘ensuring compatibility with radars in the 2700MHz-2900MHz band.’ Under the revised sale plans the watchdog has said that submission of applications will now begin on 14 October 2011, and as per the updated sale schedule the BIPT aims to issue a notification on the admissibility of applications for the 4G sale on 24 October, with the auction itself likely to start on or around 30 November.
