KDDI to launch 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspot network at end-June

Japan’s second largest telecoms operator by revenue, KDDI Corp, plans to launch a Wi-Fi service for smartphone users from the end of June. It is understood the new service will be offered under the banner ‘au Wi-Fi Spot’ and will be free to users of its existing flat-rate data plans, Is Flat and Plan F. In total, the telco plans to have deployed a network of 10,000 hotspots at the time of launch, rising to 100,000 or so by the end of March 2012.
