Vodacom Tanzania launches mobile TV service

10 May 2011

Tanzanian daily newspaper The Citizen reports that domestic mobile operator Vodacom Tanzania has launched a wireless TV service in partnership with DSTV. As a result, Vodacom users will be able to access news or entertainment channels using their mobile phones. At launch the pair are offering five channels – TBC1, Euronews, B4U, Sawsee and Super Sport Blitz – which will be available to customers with 3G handsets, and will be free for the first three months. The cellco says it is effectively soft-launching the mobile TV offering and will introduce charging of subscribers at a later date. It also hopes to increase the number of channels on offer. People wishing to sign up for the new Vodacom Tanzania-DSTV Mobile service must open a link, http://wap.vodacom.co.tz from their cell phone browser, select the dstv mobile icon and click on any one of the channels to activate the service.
