AEC to cut SMS rates from July

9 May 2011

Macedonia’s telecoms regulator the Electronic Communications Agency (AEC) has announced plans to cut the cost of SMS messages in the country from July 2011. Although no decision has been made on the exact size of the cut, rumours suggest the AEC is looking to reduce SMS prices by up to 50%. Current text message rates are MKD4.9 (USD0.116) for post-paid and MKD5.9 for pre-paid services. The head of the AEC, Robert Ordanovski, has reportedly said that the agency is currently analysing the level of the cuts it will make but that the decision about the price decrease has already been made, and moreover, it will be valid for all mobile operators.
