T-Mobile testing LTE, joins Orange and O2

4 May 2011

Slovak Telekom’s T-Mobile branded mobile division has been issued with a temporary licence to test 4G mobile broadband services over a Long Term Evolution-Frequency Division Duplex (LTE-FDD) network in the 2600MHz frequency range. The Telecommunications Office of the Slovak Republic (TU SR) issued the full-service telecoms group with a permit covering the operation of a public mobile network incorporating three base stations in the Banska Bystrica area running up until 30 June 2011. The move follows similar testing carried out by T-Mobile’s domestic rivals Orange and Telefonica O2 Slovakia. TeleGeography notes that up until now Slovak Telekom said it was relying on test results from its German parent Deutsche Telekom for its LTE research and planning.
