MNP implementation begins

4 May 2011

Balkans.com is reporting that Albania’s Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, has attended a ceremony to begin the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database last September the Albanian telecoms regulator AKEP issued new regulations on MNP, having launched a consultation period the previous April. The process is designed to be a one-stop-shop whereby a subscriber simply signs a contract with a new provider. The selected firm then requests the number to be ported from a central database; the process is envisaged to take no longer than three days.
