Only a single bid for Belgium’s fourth 3G licence

3 May 2011

Belgium’s telecoms regulator, the Belgian Institute for Post and Telecommunications (BIPT), has revealed that it has only received a single bid in the auction for 3G spectrum in the 2100MHz band. According to the regulator, having called for submissions for the 3G licence on 15 March 2011, potential bidders were given until 10am on 29 April to put forward their bids. In light of just receiving the one offer the BIPT has said that it will ‘now look into that candidacy’, following which it expects to make an announcement regarding the admissibility of the bid within the next few weeks. The identity of the bidder has not been revealed.
