NMHH reports fall in mobile base at end-March

Hungary’s telecoms regulator, the National Media and Telecommunications Authority (NMHH), says the overall number of mobile phone subscriptions in the country fell by 45,000 in March, or 0.38% month-on-month, to 11.893 million, although the total was up 0.09% year-on-year. Of the total, active subscriptions reached 10.964 million, it said, down 56,000 on the previous month. In its preliminary report the NMHH said that T-Mobile’s share of the overall mobile market increased last month from 43.65% to 43.81%, Vodafone’s slice of the pie grew from 22.42% to 22.52%, while Telenor (formerly Pannon) reported a small fall from 32.45% to 32.36%. The cellular penetration rate was 119.1% at end-March 2011, compared to 119.6% in February.
