An oldie but newie: Telus relaunching Clearnet discount brand

8 Apr 2011

Canada’s third largest mobile operator by subscribers Telus has announced this week the launch of a discount mobile brand to offer unlimited voice and messaging tariffs to compete with similar ventures from rivals. The Wire Report writes that Telus launched an unlimited talk-and-text plan in Alberta and British Columbia on Tuesday, reviving the Clearnet brand that it purchased in 2000. The new Clearnet packages will initially only be offered in Kelowna and Red Deer, with national launch expected at a later date. An unlimited talk option is offered for CAD45 (USD46.90) with regional restrictions, and a CAD55 option includes unlimited calling across Canada. Telus hopes to compete with Rogers’ discount ‘Chatr’ brand and Bell Mobility’s ‘Solo’ brand, whilst it has one eye on new entrants Wind Mobile, Mobilicity and Public Mobile, all of which offer all-you-can eat mobile plans.
