French cellcos meet government’s 3G coverage targets

5 Apr 2011

A report published by the French telecoms regulator Arcep confirms that the country’s 3G operators – Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom – all met their 3G mobile network coverage targets for 31 December 2010. The watchdog notes that the cellcos were required to cover 91%, 88% and 75% of the population respectively by that date. The regulator hopes Orange and SFR will continue to roll out their infrastructure to achieve a 3G footprint matching the voluntary commitment levels each agreed during the tender process for 3G licences in 2001. Further, Bouygues Telecom is invited to meet the target coverage levels stipulated in its 2002 licence.
