Partner inks MVNO deal with Alon Cellular

25 Mar 2011

Israeli cellco Partner Communications has inked a memorandum of understanding with Alon Cellular, a subsidiary of supermarket and retail operator Alon Holdings Blue Square Israel, under which the latter will operate as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). It is understood that Alon intends to operate as a full MVNO, and will set up switches and billing and collection systems itself, while Virgin Mobile will help the retailer set up the new venture; no decision has reportedly been made on whether the Virgin brand will be utilised for the new virtual operator. Services are, however, expected to be sold via the nationwide ‘Mega’ supermarket brand owned by Alon Holdings Blue Square, while they will also likely be made available via ‘Alonit’ gas stations and ‘AM:PM’ convenience stores, which are owned by sister company Dor Alon Energy in Israel (1988) Ltd.
