Oi setting up LTE tests with up to four vendors

22 Mar 2011

Brazilian mobile operator Telemar Norte Leste (Oi) has reportedly invited four major technology providers – Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei Technologies, ZTE Corp and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) – to assist it in trialling fourth-generation Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks over the next couple of years. Oi will be conducting the trials both in laboratory conditions and in live networks in several – yet to be determined – cities, writes Cellular News, quoting the Teletime website. The market expectation is that Brazilian LTE networks will come into commercial operation before the football World Cup being held in the country in 2014. The regulatory authorities are expected to grant temporary concessions in the 2.5GHz bands for the tests.
