i-Cable’s losses widen; broadband and telephony base shrinks

Hong Kong triple-play cable TV network operator i-Cable widened its net losses to HKD267 million (USD34.2 million) for the full-year 2010, compared to HKD41 million in 2009. Consolidated revenues from pay-TV, broadband and telephony services increased to HKD2.0 million from HKD1.8 million a year earlier, although all the growth came from the TV segment while total operating costs before depreciation increased by 30% to just under HKD2 million. Cable modem-based broadband internet subscribers decreased by 8% year-on-year to 228,000 at 31 December 2010, whilst VoIP-based cable telephony lines in service also declined, by 6% to 143,000. Annual turnover from i-Cable’s internet and telephony segment fell 17% to HKD433 million.
