DoCoMo to start selling unlockable handsets

11 Mar 2011

NTT DoCoMo says it will begin selling unlocked handsets from April. Japan’s largest cellco by subscribers is the first operator to respond to a request by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) to make some handsets SIM-free. DoCoMo will equip selected handsets with software to unlock them at DoCoMo stores for a fee of JPY3,150 (USD38).
