Arcep hints at FT breakup plan, paper says

9 Mar 2011

France’s telecoms regulator Arcep has reportedly flown the idea of breaking up former monopoly operator France Telecom (FT) as a way of preventing it taking a dominant position in the burgeoning fibre-optic broadband segment. An unconfirmed report in Les Echos claims the matter was raised at an Arcep meeting earlier this week, but that any decision has been deferred for now as there is little to suggest it is needed at this time. A spokesperson for the telco declined to comment.
