Magyars mulling fourth 900MHz licence award

8 Mar 2011

The government of Hungary is planning to award a fourth mobile licence in the 900MHz band either via auction or tender, MTI-Econews writes citing the National Development minister Tamas Fellegi as saying. As it stands, three incumbent cellcos – T-Mobile Hungary, Telenor Hungary (formerly Pannon) and Vodafone Hungary – hold rights to operate services in the 900MHz band. In addition, Fellegi went on to say that the ministry is looking to set up a telecoms ‘roundtable’ to discuss with the industry, proposed changes in the regulatory framework after 2012 – i.e. when the government’s telecoms crisis tax is due to be phased out.
