Zantel set April 2011 date for 3G network rollout

25 Feb 2011

The Citizen reports that Tanzanian mobile operator Zanzibar Telecommunication (Zantel) plans to throw its hat into the 3G arena this year, offering its users a wide range of services, including high speed data transmissions, while simultaneously improving network capacity. The paper quotes Zantel chief executive Norman Moyo as saying the cellco is set to roll out its W-CDMA-based 3G network in April. Although he stopped short of announcing a formal date for commercial launch, he confirmed that 3G technology would be implemented in phases starting with Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, before expanding to other parts of the country at a later date.
