MT facing scrutiny for alleged abuse of its dominant position

24 Feb 2011

Mauritius Telecom (MT) is being investigated by the Competition Commission of Mauritius (CCM) concerning allegations that the telco is abusing its dominant position and effective monopoly in the ADSL sector to gain an unfair advantage in the TV services and international calls market segments. It is understood the CCM is investigating whether or not MT refuses to supply its high speed ADSL products to customers unless taken as part of a MyT bundled package, or secondly, if it is guilty of pricing its MyT bundles against ADSL-only services it offers to rivals in such a way as to influence customers to opt for MyT. If the commission finds that MT is guilty of restricting competition it can seek remedial measures – although it does not have the power to impose financial sanctions.
