Partner to be the first Israeli cellco to offer femtocells?

17 Feb 2011

Israeli mobile network operator Partner Communications will reportedly become the country’s first cellco to adopt femtocell technology, according to Globes Online. It is understood that the operator has already completed trials of the technology, following which it placed its first order for equipment, thought to be with French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent, with a view to introducing the kit within the next few months.

One of Partner’s major rivals, Pelephone, the mobile subsidiary of fixed line incumbent Bezeq, is also believed to have tested femtocell products made by Nokia Siemens Networks, although it remains unclear whether the cellco is considering a commercial launch of the technology.
