LightSquared signs contracts with five companies for LTE network access

LightSquared, the USD7 billion Long Term Evolution (LTE) open-access mobile network that will utilise spectrum acquired by New York investment firm Harbinger Capital, has signed agreements with five customers for wholesale services. LightSquared refused to name the companies, but says it has inked deals with a national retailer, a device manufacturer, two carriers and a website. A spokesperson for LightSquared said that network trials are due to begin this year in Baltimore, Denver, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
