Net 1 / Ice.net deploys Ericsson’s CDMA-450 Rev B infrastructure

16 Feb 2011

Swedish equipment provider Ericsson has successfully deployed a commercial network upgrade using CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev B technology in the 450MHz band for Scandinavian wireless broadband operator Net 1 (previously Nordisk Mobiltelefon), which operates under the Net 1 brand in Sweden and Denmark, and as Ice.net in Norway. The Rev B upgrade promises maximum theoretical data speeds in the downlink of 9.3Mbps, and 5.4Mbps upstream, and is aimed at both residential and business users. ‘We are very pleased with this development on our CDMA 450MHz network. Now, we can enhance our mobile broadband service offerings to our customer base in Scandinavia,’ said Net 1’s COO, Gosta Kallner. Net 1, which specialises in covering remote and rural areas, is rebranding its wireless broadband units from the previous Ice.net moniker, a changeover it began in Sweden in May 2010.
