Hutchison 3G Austria has signed a contract with ZTE for the provision of a nationwide LTE/DC-HSPA+ network. Under the terms of the deal, by the end of this year the Chinese vendor will cover 94% of Austria’s population with HSPA+ services and provide LTE in major cities. The new network is to completely replace Hutchison’s existing UMTS network – including the transmission, radio and core network gear. ZTE will also provide the cellco with managed services for six years. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at the end of 2010 Hutchison was the fourth largest operator in Austria, claiming a market share of approximately 8.5%.
