Fast Track: eMobile signs managed services deal with Ericsson

16 Feb 2011

Japanese mobile broadband specialist eMobile has extended the managed services contract it has with Ericsson of Sweden regarding its 42Mbps HSPA+ network. eMobile announced its intention to launch a dual-cell HSDPA Evolution (DC-HSPA) network using equipment from Ericsson in July last year. The cellco soft-launched the new network in the summer and began offering full-blown commercial services in metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Tokai and Osaka by the end of the year. eMobile says the increased use of smartphones and advanced mobile applications has significantly boosted data traffic on its network. It hopes the Ericsson-supplied DC-HSPA technology will meet this increased demand and to ensure continued high quality for end users. The cellco says the upgraded network will cover 40% of the population by 31 March 2011, the end of its current financial year. eMobile broke the three million subscriber barrier on 30 January this year.
