Vodafone orders Chinese talk-away

11 Feb 2011

According to Romania Insider, mobile operator Vodafone Romania has launched a new calling option for the country’s Chinese population, which offers its subscribers 200 minutes of calls to any Chinese mobile network for a set fee. The offer is valid for both pre-paid and post-paid subscribers, with pre-paid customers paying EUR15 (USD20.5) per month, compared to the EUR18.6 charged to post-paid account holders. China and Romania have a history of several decades of economic and cultural exchanges dating back to the Communist era, and whilst the expatriate population was estimated at around 20,000 in the mid-90s, it is now judged to be much lower. According to operator data released this week, Vodafone Romania reported a subscriber base of 9.8 million clients at the end of 2010, with 62.1% of its subscriber base signed up to pre-paid contracts.
