Four firms in hunt to win contracts for Telebras’ national broadband plan

Brazil’s state-owned telecoms operator Telebras is reportedly poised to award equipment supply contracts for the national broadband plan (Plano Nacional de Banda Larga, PNBL). BNamericas reports that four companies have been tagged as likely winners of supply contracts totalling around BRL710 million (USD426 million), although the online journal says Telebras will wait until 10 February to finalise the results of the bidding process. The four frontrunners are Everest and Bimetal, which if selected would provide the programme’s tower and antenna infrastructure, for BRL68 million and BRL184 million, respectively. Separately, Telebras has tagged Networker, with an offer of BRL246 million, and Digitel, at BRL212 million, to handle PNBL-related radio frequency equipment.
