Telenet eyeing up Numericable’s Belgian unit?

2 Feb 2011

Hot on the heels of claims that French cable group Numericable intends to sell off its Belgian and Luxembourg subsidiaries, Reuters is reporting that Belgian cableco Telenet is considering a bid for the Brussels-based unit. Such a move by Telenet would allow it to expand its operations in the north of the country, but commenting on the prospect of such a deal a Telenet spokesperson simply said: ‘We are looking at this asset, just like we are looking at other assets in the cable sector, but we won’t give any information beyond that.’ Telenet had tried to acquire Numericable’s Belgian operations, which previously operated under the Coditel banner, back in 2005, but the two sides could not reach an agreement.
