Vodafone Italy has announced that it intends to offer mobile broadband download transmission speeds of up to 43.2Mbps on its HSPA+ network in the cities of Rome and Milan. By March 2011, the operator expects to offer the service in a total of 16 major cities nationwide. Initially the service will only be on offer to selected corporate clients, although a full commercial launch is planned for April of this year.

During a press conference in Corsico, outside Milan, the cellco also demonstrated the potential of its planned Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, which is currently undergoing trials in Milan and Rome. The tests, which commenced in 2009, currently cover eight sites in Milan and four in Rome. A total of 200 LTE base stations are mooted for deployment during 2011, although a full commercial launch is not anticipated until 2013.
