Zhang Feng, director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s (MIIT’s) telecoms development department, has said at a briefing in Beijing that trials of 4G technology are underway and are expected to last for 18 months. The trials reportedly involve both domestic and overseas companies. Last month the MIIT gave China Mobile permission to begin large scale tests of its TD-LTE network in the cities of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen.
