Bell Aliant expanding FTTH to Halifax by mid-year

Atlantic Canada-based Bell Aliant yesterday confirmed plans to expand its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) ‘FibreOP’ network to 160,000 homes and businesses in the Halifax region in the first half of this year under a USD55 million budget partly funded by the Government of Nova Scotia. FibreOP triple-play services will be expanded to Halifax, Dartmouth, Eastern Passage, Cole Harbour, Sackville, Hammonds Plains, Waverley, Timberlea, Spryfield, Bedford, St. Margaret’s Bay and Lake Echo by around mid-2011, extending the coverage in Nova Scotia to around 190,000 households and businesses, and raising spending on the regional project to over USD70 million. By the end of 2012 Bell Aliant says it will have invested almost half a billion dollars to roll out FTTH to 600,000 premises across the Atlantic Canadian provinces.
