UQ deploys WiMAX pico base stations designed by ZTE, Hitachi

Japanese WiMAX operator UQ Communications has begun deploying WiMAX pico base stations developed by China’s ZTE in partnership with Hitachi. In the initial rollout phase UQ is installing and activating more than 1,200 base stations for commercial use across the country. The newcomer started offering WiMAX-based services in July 2009 and now counts more than 370,000 subscribers.
