Cogeco reports fiscal Q1 results

Cogeco Cable, which operates triple-play services in Canada and Portugal, has announced its financial and operational results for the first quarter of fiscal 2010/11, ended 30 November 2010. Its consolidated revenue increased by 4.5% year-on-year to CAD331.5 million (USD335.8 million) for the three-month period and net income amounted to CAD33.6 million compared to CAD56.7 million for the same period of the previous fiscal year, due to tax adjustments; excluding the tax effects, net profit rose 25.1%. At its Canadian operations, Cogeco reported 16,872 net high speed cable internet user additions in the quarter to reach a total of 575,929 at end-November; it also netted 17,866 telephony customers and 7,038 cable TV subscribers to increase respective bases to 375,463 and 881,543. In Portugal, its Cabovisao subsidiary reported a total of 166,779 cable broadband users, up by 3,592 in the quarter, as well as respective net quarterly additions of 3,264 and 588 telephony and CATV subscribers, reaching corresponding totals of 248,730 and 260,855.
