Du gains access to FEWA’s dark fibre network

11 Jan 2011

The UAE’S second national telecoms operator, Du, has announced the finalisation of a strategic agreement with the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) that will give the firm immediate access to FEWA’s dark fibre network. The deal is a continuation of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two companies, inked in January 2010. The partnership will allow the pair to utilise their respective network resources to enhance the scope of their services and operations efficiency, as well as enable Du to extend the reach of its fixed services to homes and business in Northern Emirates. ‘We believe that increased cooperation between the private and public sectors based on mutual synergies is the way forward,’ commented Du’s CEO Osman Sultan, adding: ‘We are proud of this agreement, which is part of our continuous efforts to strengthen our fixed and mobile network capabilities, and is a significant part of our preparations to extend our fixed services footprint nationwide this year.’
