Tajikistan-based cellco Indigo, a subsidiary of Swedish telecoms group TeliaSonera has announced that it will launch 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in the republic next year in tandem with its sister company Somoncom (which also uses the Indigo brand name). ‘We have submitted a request to the transport and communications ministry for obtaining a 4G licence allowing [us] to transmit data at a speed of up to 100Mbps,’ Reuters quoted Indigo’s director general Bakhriddin Nazhmudinov as saying. The twin operators will roll out an LTE network in the capital, Dushanbe, before expanding the network to other regions throughout the country. TeliaSonera owns 60% and 59.4% of Indigo and Somoncom respectively; the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development holds the remaining stakes.
