Mobily plans LTE launch in mid-2011

Mobily (Etihad Etisalat), Saudi Arabia’s second largest cellco by subscribers, has announced provisional plans to launch fourth-generation wireless services by mid-2011. In a statement given to television station CNBC Arabia, Mobily chief operating officer Abdulaziz Al Tamami indicated that the company’s Long Term Evolution (LTE) network will initially be available in 33 cities across Saudi Arabia. Mobily’s existing cellular network covers 414 cities, towns and governorates in the Kingdom. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Mobily reported the successful completion of LTE trials in the first trimester of 2010.
