Sweden’s Net4Mobility, an infrastructure-sharing joint venture between Tele2 and Telenor Sweden, has chosen Transmode to provide fibre-optic solutions to support the ongoing construction of a national high capacity next generation network delivering Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband services. Transmode, a provider of optical networking solutions for transport of data, voice and video traffic based on CWDM and DWDM technology, said that it was selected on the basis of the cost of meeting the rising demand for mobile broadband services and the evolution of mobile backhaul networks towards fibre-to-the-cell site architectures. Bjorn Andersson, Transmode’s VP of sales, commented: ‘We are delighted to have been selected by Net4Mobility for this new network rollout, which we believe is the world’s first LTE network where two operators share the same infrastructure to reduce costs.’ Tele2 and Telenor launched commercial LTE services in mid-November, initially in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo and Karlskrona, and plan to expand the ‘4G’ Net4Mobility network to over 100 locations next year. Transmode said its equipment will be integrated seamlessly with systems from various international telecoms suppliers. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Net4Mobility chose Huawei Technologies as the main vendor to deploy its LTE network in December 2009, whilst Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) is currently implementing a common core network for GSM/W-CDMA/HSPA/LTE services for Tele2 Sweden.
