E-Networks has announced the launch of its WiMAX network in the capital Georgetown and the surrounding area, including Diamond on the East Bank of Demerara county. The launch is part of a wider USD35 million strategy, whereby the Guyanan government has partnered with Huawei to deploy WiMAX systems throughout the country. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, E-Networks has been in operation since 2004 providing communication services to large corporations, small businesses and – more recently – residential customers. It claims to be the only triple-play provider in Guyana, offering a mix of digital television, voice-over-IP (VoIP) and high speed internet access over a single connection. In 2007 E-Ntworks launched an IPTV platform offering 45 TV channels.
