TD-SCDMA network to cover ‘all Chinese counties’ by year end

Xinhua News Agency reports that China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network will boast 220,000 base stations by the end of this year, and that the network will cover all the counties in China. At the end of September 2010 China was home to 545,000 3G base stations, of which 115,000 were based on TD-SCDMA. By the end of this year TD base stations will top 220,000 with the networks covering 339 Chinese cities. According to an MIIT official, the number of TD-SCDMA subscribers topped 15.28 million at the end of September, accounting for 43.7% of the total 3G subscribers in the country.
