15 Nov 2010

Armenia’s Public Services Regulating Committee (PSRC) has awarded frequencies to domestic mobile operator VivaCell-MTS, the subsidiary of Russia’s Mobile TeleSystems, allowing it to build a 4G network based on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. Following a meeting on 10 November, the watchdog has granted VivaCell-MTS permission to use 40MHz of spectrum: 2500MHz-2520MHz and 2620MHz-2640 MHz in the capital Yerevan; and 2600MHz-2640MHz in the regions, until 4 November 2019. The LTE licence, which is understood to have cost AMD990 million (USD2.73 million), stipulates that VivaCell-MTS will have to launch commercial operations by 1 March 2011.
